Utilizing a set of literatures and in-depth interviews that exhibit mothers having varied experiences in attaining the necessary knowledge and services when dealing with their maternal health-related conditions explores the dynamics of accessing healthcare in the community. Applying Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical concepts of habitus, field and capital, this paper argues that the varied experiences of mothers in accessing maternal healthcare services is a result of the interplay of the available resources and social status they are set in the community. Given that (1) Urban coastal communities pose as a higher risk to health conditions of women, (2) Individuals living in urban coastal communities do not gain convenient access and knowledge of the availability of quality healthcare services and (3) the prevalent lapses in the Philippine’s system of distributing maternal healthcare services.
